These children may not be bored or disruptive, they may be dysregulated through not having their sensory needs met.
Whilst most sensory programmes are aimed at individuals with special needs we believe that we are all unique sensory beings and this can impact our day-to-day ability to attend concentrate and learn effectively. This training can be equally delivered for mainstream schools, special needs schools or mainstream schools with a SEN unit attached.
We can offer twilight, ½ day or inset training for schools on sensory awareness for use with all pupils. Topics that we can cover include:
We can offer classroom and individual coaching or mentoring for TAs, teachers and SENCOS. This may be about working with Occupational Therapy recommendations made, using sensory approaches within the classroom. This could be either with mainstream children or those with additional needs. Alternatively you may wish to further develop skills and confidence in supporting the pupils in their learning journey using sensory strategies.
Lindsey qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1999. Since then she has worked across several different fields and age spans, gaining a wide range of experience in the areas of Occupational Therapy, including physical and mental health and learning disabilities. With approaching 16 years experience in the NHS, she continues to maintain her professional development actively. Lindsey is passionate about exploring sensory needs and the application of sensory approaches in enhancing individuals ability to take part in life.
Karen worked in social care for 10 years, providing support to individuals in the community and managing outreach teams within social services and housing, before qualifying as an Occupational Therapist in 2006. She has a wide range of experience, particularly in the areas of mental and physical health, learning disabilities, and autism spectrum disorder. These were developed through working in the NHS, Social Services, Housing and Educational Settings. Karen actively maintains her professional development, and developed an interest in sensory approaches through observing how individuals she worked with were more able to focus and learn when their sensory needs were met. She is passionate about using evidence based sensory approaches to enable individuals to learn and achieve their goals.
